Pink Helmets

Well, now that I’ve recovered from my seven-day workweek I can tell you about my weekend. Obviously, I was excited all week to work for the track on Sunday.

Friday was a good night at work. I was still $300 below my goal but at least I had fun.

Saturday was very difficult. I forgot to take my Prozac on Thursday and it showed by the way I was crying because of something I heard on the news Saturday morning. It just tore me up that a woman was suing a nursing home in Louisiana because her mother died in the Hurricane known as Katrina. I was so pissed at her for leaving her mother in the home while she fled to safety. It took a long time for the Prozac to start working. I forgot how bad my social anxiety was until I started working at the club on Saturday night. I managed to keep myself from having an anxiety attack by deep breathing. I had debated not drinking for fear of it getting worse but I couldn’t see how much worse it could get. I didn’t even want to leave the dressing room. So after a shot of Patron I was right as rain. I know it was a risk to do it, but I know the effects that Patron has on me, and thank God it worked! I felt so much better! I only had one… or two drinks because I had to leave at midnight in order to get enough sleep to work at the track on Sunday. Damn, I had such a hard time sleeping on Saturday night/Sunday morning! Unbelievably, I woke up rested and alert. Ashley met me at my house and hubby made us breakfast and we were on our way to the track by 9:30 a.m.

We were whisked away from the office in a dusty old Jeep Cherokee. After flying over bumpy dirt roads in the middle of the woods I met my client. He quickly gave us a little orientation and then we tromped up a rutty, grassy, dirt road to the starting line. We had just arrived at a Rally Race! We walked past all kinds of rally cars including about 20 Subaru Imprezas! The race was about to begin and we were invited to jump in one of the cars for a ride. The front car was another Jeep Cherokee driven by an instructor for the track I was working for. Ashley and I donned dust filled pink helmets and off we went! I’ve only watched rally races on TV and I have always thought they looked like so much fun. I’ve always wanted to attend a rally race to watch these cars drive at break neck speed on windy, dirt roads. But I never imagined actually riding in a rally race! HOLY FUCK! What fun! Dusty, Dirty and exhilarating!
Ending our race with a 180 at the finish line we hopped out of the Jeep to get ready to work. Peeling off our helmets we discovered that we should have emptied the dirt out of the helmets before we put them on! Poor Ashley’s scalp was covered in red dirt. She took it like a champ and cleaned up what she could and kept on working. We were put in charge of handing out drinks and brochures advertising off road classes for the first half of the day.

After lunch and a few Jeep rides back and forth from the concessions to the rally track. We were ushered over to the drifting course. Where we were instructed to have a seat next to the trophy’s and don’t leave that area unless we wanted to ride with a drifter. That instructor did not want us distracting his drifting classes. After Ashley took a few laps around the track we sat and sat… and sat. We sat there for about two hours watching our surroundings and watching the drifters watch us. The awards ceremony only took about 20 minutes and we were free to leave.
Ashley and I were both so tired. Even though we didn’t do much, just the heat wore us down. After I got home and changed clothes I took Hubby out to dinner, came home and passed out. What a great day! I would love to be able to go to a job like that every day!

Another cool thing…. I’ve added 6 dates on the Motorsports Models calendar since Sunday. I love this time of year! Just like last year, the business is picking up… hopefully it’ll carry over the winter. I love this job and want it to grow large enough to maintain my lifestyle so I can get out of this cubicle!!!

By the way, I haven’t had a day off yet, but weeks only come in 7-day increments.

I sure am happy to hear that the other business is coming along nicely. I want you out of that cubicle. People like us deserve more out of life.

There. I've spoken.
